we all can do it better mountains

SUSTAINABILITY

We develop and produce products with the claim of sustainable action in our value chain. In doing so, we examine the effects on people and the environment. We select the production materials based on our predefined criteria, so that only components that correspond to our ideas in relation to this responsibility are used.

Margelisch Nachhaltigkeit Baumwolle

cotton

We deliberately use organic cotton as the lining for the backpack and bag models. This is because the natural fiber is a renewable raw material and can be recycled. In our canvas models, cotton is also used as the outer material.
By applying a fine layer of wax, the canvas becomes water-repellent.
We deliberately go one step further in this area. We have decided not to use nylon and PVC in the collection. Among other things, nylon straps are replaced by cotton straps, PVC fasteners and strap adjusters are replaced by metal.

vegetable tanned leather

In production we use two types of leather. We use vegetable-tanned buffalo leather in the city-cowgirls, little boys and rough purist collections. For the stories hunters collection, we use vegetable-tanned cowhide (oily washed) of exquisite quality.
Vegetable tanning uses natural tannins from the bark and leaves. These make the leather firmer and allow it to age beautifully. Full-grain leather uses the top layer of the hide, which contains the strongest fibers. The leather is aniline dyed which means no pigment is used to hide natural imperfections in the leather.
Our leather is a natural product and some scratches and imperfections may be visible. These natural variations do not represent defects, rather they testify to the character of the products. The leather ages naturally over time and acquires its natural patina, which further supports our design language.

leather upcycled

Discarded furniture such as sofas and armchairs, leftovers from leather production and the automotive industry are the basis for producing sustainable leather wallets that block RFID signals. The procurement, cutting and processing of the leather takes place in Switzerland. To this end, we have implemented our own procurement and recycling concept.

Margelisch repair service

repair instead of replacement

The repair service we set up at our company location is part of our sustainability strategy. Should a repair (within the applicable warranty period and provisions) be pending, we are able to repair the product for our customers ourselves. According to our motto:
"Repair instead of replacing and throwing away"

transport

Our products reach the EU by sea in container ships from India. This deliberately chosen transport route can reduce CO2. This is because emissions by sea freight are 35 grams per 1000 kilometers, in contrast to air freight, which is 1000 grams per kilogram of goods per 1000 kilometers.
For shipping our products to corporate customers and end consumers, we only use cardboard boxes that we reuse. On the one hand, these boxes come from deliveries from our producers, on the other hand, we have agreements with companies that have large quantities of used boxes at their disposal.
All our shipping packages come with the sticker
'HELLO, I'm a recycled box'.
